Free Farming Supplies Given to Ekiti Farmers

In Ekiti State, Caritas Nigeria, in collaboration with Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, flagged off the distribution of agricultural inputs to smallholder farmers in Ise-Orum Ekiti LGA of Ekiti State. Over 88 farmers benefitted from a prior capacity strengthening in climate-smart agriculture and received knapsack sprayed, cowpea, and maize to enhance their farming processes and overall productivity.

Over 3,200 Lagos Farmers in Ijede and Ibayeku Equipped with Essential Inputs to Enhance Agricultural Productivity

Last week, more farmers in Ijede (Ikorodu LGA) and Ibayeiku (Badagry LGA) communities in Lagos State benefitted from Conrad N. Hilton Foundation‘s transformative agricultural initiatives realized through the Building Sustainable Livelihoods for Vibrant Communities (B-SLiC) project implemented by Caritas Nigeria in Ekiti and Lagos States. The intervention was aimed at positively impacting their farming endeavours.

Strengthening Vibrant Communities through Sustainable Development

Under the Building Sustainable Livelihoods for Vibrant Communities (B-SLiC)  over 400 beneficiaries in Epe, Lagos State received their certificates and start-up kits after sufficient training in various vocational skills such as Catering, Electrical Works, Phone Repair, Hairdressing, Barbing, Tailoring, Auto-mechanical Repair, Carpentry, and Plumbing.

Engaging Traditional Rulers in Badagry for B-SLiC Project Implementation

Caritas Nigeria B-SLiC project team and partners recently engaged with key traditional rulers in the Badagry region, including His Royal Majesty Oba Saheed Adamson of Ajido Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oba Nunayon Awogbemi of Akarakumo Kingdom and the Baale of Topo community, Chief Michael Olorundami Avoseh.

Fostering Community Involvement in Climate Change

Ahead of Year 2 of the B-SLiC Project, the team, joined by the Dean of Badagry Deanery, Rev. Fr. George Anubuike advocates for local community involvement and engagement in addressing the pressing issue of climate change in agriculture to reduce the risk of food shortages and hunger.

Empowering Ekiti: Caritas Nigeria’s Climate-Smart Initiatives & Environmental Awareness

In continuation of the ongoing Caritas Nigeria Day, our staff, who are supporting farmers in Ekiti state with climate-smart techniques on the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation-funded B-SLiC (Building Sustainable Livelihoods for Vibrant Communities) project, organized an environmental cleaning exercise in Ekiti state. The community service promoted awareness about the importance of proper waste disposal which is crucial a step to contextualizing LaudatoSi. Similarly, the team carried out an outreach at Annunciation Secondary School, Ikere-Ekiti, to raise awareness about Climate-smart agricultural techniques. Besides underscoring the need for educating and inspiring them to consider a career in agriculture, the students also gained knowledge about sustainable farming and environmental preservation practices.  

13th Year Anniversary: Caritas Nigeria’s Climate Smart Agricultural Awareness Campaign in Ekiti and Lagos states

Marking the 13th year anniversary of Caritas Nigeria, the B-SLiC Project Team in Ekiti State visited among others, Holy Child Catholic Secondary School and Annunciation Secondary School, Ikere-Ekiti to sensitize the students about Climate Smart Agricultural Practices. Similarly, Caritas Staff in the B-Slic project Ikorodu Lagos visited Wurabridge School Bayeku and concluded their first exercise in preparations for the Caritas Nigeria day come September 22, 2023. The Universal Primary Education (UPE) Ilara was not left out.  The visit was much appreciated by the management of the schools the team visited.
