Caritas Nigeria’s Environment Unit: Foster Care for Our Common Home

Mission & Vision: Guided by the Catholic Social Teachings and inspired by Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si, Caritas Nigeria’s Environment Unit promotes stewardship and sustainable development to build an environment where everyone enjoys the fullness of life.

Key Areas of Focus:

  • Integral Ecology & Climate Action: Adaptation and mitigation initiatives addressing local and global climate challenges, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement.
  • Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA): Supporting local farmers with sustainable practices to enhance resilience, ensure food security, restore soil health, and conserve biodiversity.
  • Reforestation & Biodiversity: Projects aimed at restoring degraded lands, promoting biodiversity, and sequestering carbon through tree-planting campaigns.
  • Community Empowerment: Collaborating with marginalized communities to foster climate justice and enhance resilience against environmental degradation.
  • Partnerships & Advocacy: Working with local and international environmental organizations to drive innovation and promote renewable energy solutions for a low-carbon economy.

Caritas Nigeria’s Environment Unit is dedicated to restoring our planet, promoting social and ecological justice, and ensuring that everyone enjoys fullness of life.
