Caritas Nigeria is passionately committed to safeguarding the environment by fostering stewardship and advancing sustainability which ensures that everyone enjoys a green and healthy environment.
Our Strategies for Environmental Stewardship include the following:
- Integral Ecology: We utilize holistic approaches that consider both ecological and social factors, promoting a balanced and sustainable relationship with our natural environment.
- Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA): We empower farmers with sustainable farming techniques such as agroforestry, water conservation, organic farming, and sustainable land management to adapt to climate variability and improve crop yields.
- Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation: Our efforts include reforestation and afforestation initiatives, advocating for renewable energy, and collaborating with other organizations to develop innovative solutions to climate challenges.
- Tree Planting Campaigns: Inspired by the vision of Laudato Si, we spearhead a national tree-planting campaign, motivating dioceses to plant 20,000 trees annually.
- Environmental Awareness and Education: We enhance community awareness about ecological preservation and sustainable practices through various educational initiatives.
- Partnership and Collaboration: We work with local and international organizations, sharing knowledge and resources to tackle environmental challenges collectively.
- Renewable Energy Advocacy: Our advocacy extends to promoting the adoption of clean technologies and renewable energy sources, contributing to Nigeria’s transition towards a low-carbon economy.
- Community Empowerment for Environmental Justice: We collaborate with marginalized communities to amplify their voices, provide essential resources, and foster resilience against environmental degradation and climate change.
By integrating faith-based perspectives with practical solutions, Caritas Nigeria is at the forefront of driving environmental sustainability and justice.
