Laudato Si Summit

Share:

In July 2022, Caritas Nigeria hosted a summit to mark the 7th anniversary of Laudato Si, the encyclical of Pope Francis. Introduced in 2015, Laudato Si encourages humans to heed the “cry of the earth and cry of the poor” by caring for the environment and reshaping the future of the earth.

The summit shed a light on practical ways to operationalize Laudato Si goals in Nigeria.

Participants at the two-day meeting included the Board Chairman of the Church and Department, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins, representatives of civil societies, the judiciary, law enforcement agencies, youth groups, student groups, religious congregations and Catholic lay organizations. Among the recommendations put forward were awareness creation, tree planting, energy conservation, waste reduction and recycling.
