Caritas Nigeria is passionately committed to improving the health and socio-economic outcomes of children who are orphaned by, infected with, or at risk of HIV, along with their households. We achieve this by empowering the target population with income-generating activities under the…
household economic strengthening component of the Orphans and Vulnerable Children’s (OVC) intervention.
Supported by the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the high-achieving OVC intervention implemented under the 4GATES project accelerated HIV care and treatment services, improved the well-being of families and reduced educational barriers across Caritas Nigeria project states of Abia, Delta, Enugu and Imo.
In the previous quarter, Caritas Nigeria, working with community-based organizations, distributed several trade start-up tools to out-of-school children and adolescents, who participated in our vocational skills training in tailoring, hairdressing, barbing, professional make-up and baking, to earn a living from their skills. Cash grants were also given to vulnerable households to establish small-scale businesses or strengthen existing businesses.
