By its mandate, Caritas Nigeria provides support to those in need according to its thematic focus.
So far, over 2.5 million persons have benefited from Caritas Nigeria support through its interventions in addressing issues of poverty, diseases, promoting good governance & accountability; support to orphans & vulnerable children, agriculture & livelihoods support to vulnerable households; and responding to emergencies especially in times of conflict and disasters.
The sustainable development goals (SDGs) took effect this January 2016; yet the work of reaching the poor, working hard to eliminate poverty, is not new to the Catholic Church anywhere in the world. The life of the Catholic Church as proclaimed by Pope Emeritus, Benedict XVI in his first Encyclical, Deus Caritas Est (25) rests on three pillars; proclamation of the Word of God, the celebration of the Sacraments and the Service of Charity (Caritas). Caritas is the practical gospel that serves all those in need.
