Beloved Friends and Colleagues
- Today is Vocation Sunday. It is a day in which we remember that each one of us has been called by God for one form of vocation or another. We are not all destined to be the same in our professions and vocations. We are essentially different in our aptitudes and abilities. Our vocations and professions set us apart from one another and make us become stewards of each other in our different ways and means. Hence, our theme of reflection today; called to live and work for one another.
- Could anyone imagine what the world would have looked like, if there were no variety in vocations and professions. At least, there would have been much monotony and boredom. The variety of vocations and professions is indicative of the fact, that God is interested in diversity and uniqueness. We are unique in diverse ways. There are no two persons that are totally and completely the same in all things. Variety, they say is the spice of life.
- In our organization, we are different persons, but hired to do similar jobs, and perhaps, with similar qualifications and experiences. But we are not the same. Each one of us is different from the other, even if they did similar and related studies. The experience would always be different. Our contexts of operations would always be different. Each of us has a different approach to the work we do.
- Yet we have been called to live and work for one another with our unique vocations, talents, and professions. That is the beauty of life. There is no one single person who can provide all that the variety of life requires. We depend largely on the services of others. In other words ,we complement one another in our works. Today, the opportunity we have to work, is indeed a golden one. We contribute to the well-being of others by the work and services we render. In that way ,we would be contributing to the building of the human family and authentic human promotion.
- Given the foregoing, how do you then work in your units and departments? How do you complement one another? Those who refuse to share their experiences with others for fears of being edged out, do you realize that you are selfish and in trouble? Do you know that you are inferior and unliberated? Knowledge is power and it liberates one who possesses it. The candle does not loose anything by lightening another. You do not need to relate miserly with others.
