Beloved Friends and Colleagues
On this Sunday, the 7th day of July, 2019, I bring you hearty greetings on the platform of our Sunday Digest. In the last two weeks ,we were unable to send the Digest, and very many persons expressed their disappointments. We apologize for the omissions. However, it was Eric Terver of the Nutrition section in the Humanitarian Unit of the North East, who remarked that the Digest is often too lengthy, and it makes digestion impossible. I promised him to be more precise as much as it is possible.
In this Edition of the Digest, we would like to bring up to you some little Updates and Feedbacks with some General Exhortations, in order to keep us abreast with the diverse engagements and activities of the Organization in its multi-sectoral interventions.
The Committee on Staff Promotion and Awards, of Enugu Office, headed by Dr. Chukwuemeka Charles Okolie has submitted its own report on Staff Promotions and Awards. We thank them most copiously and remind all other Committees of the deadline on the 31st of July 2019. Kindly ensure that there would be no excuses for non-submission on the date stipulated.
The Humanitarian Unit in the North East is doing exceptionally well despite the daily reality of violence and fear of attack around them. We thank its leadership, in the name of all of us. They are concluding arrangements for a Guest house and an Office complex for the Organization in Mubi.
The logistic bottle-necks in the North East is getting a head way. The clear delineation of responsibilities between our Staff and JDPCs of Yola and Maiduguri Dioceses would soon be properly articulated and communicated. We have a duty to ensure your happiness in your places of work.
The Surge Teams at all levels are facing daunting challenges in various facilities. The demand for more work from CDC is not getting lesser. But the commitment on the part of our Staff is growing every day. How can we thank their leadership, for the ceaseless meetings and oversight functions and travels, in the field. If nobody says it, be sure that your contributions are not in vain.
The acute needs for ART Nurses in Emekuku, GH Okigwe, GH Aboh Mbaise, GH Mbieri and the Clinical Officers for Parklane Enugu, Nsukka District Hospital, and Asata Poly Sub, are being looked into. The processes for their engagements are on the high gear.
The Communication Department has been up and about the 99 Months of our history and development publications. They are at the re-view level to ensure that all details are taken care of. We thank them also for the publication and visibility of Caritas Nigeria, in the e-Magazine of Caritas Africa published recently. They are also getting ready with the Annual Report and the 3rd Quarter Newsletter of the Organization. We thank them most sincerely with the Communication desk in Ogoja in this regard, for the good work being done.
TRAININGS: There would be a Leadership Training for 40 members of our Organization in Supervisory positions, who did not participate in the similar training in the past. The training is scheduled for 15th July through 19th instant, in Enugu, and is carefully designed to engage the teams by soliciting their unique talents in order to maximize their ingenuity for optimal performance in the context of the organizational goals.
There would be also another training on ‘Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse’ for the entire Staff of the Humanitarian Unit scheduled for 9th July through 11th instant in Yola, Adamawa State.
In the same way, there would be another training organized for the Drivers-or Pilots. We have approved the budget but the details of dates and venues are not communicated to me at the time of this write up. The Logistics Unit must as a matter of urgency make the details of the training public. I think this Unit must sit up. I waited at the Airport yesterday for 39 minutes after landing for a pick up. This is the 2nd time from the same Driver. I think this must stop, not just with me, but with any Staff. Our trips are planned and booked for, they do not just happen. But if it repeats, a third time, one is sure of a drastic sanction. Meanwhile, the said driver must pay for the Airport taxi that conveyed me home, as a price for his lightheadedness.
The General Exhortations on the Trainings are clear, namely, that the trainings are costly in terms of time and resources, but we need them to be better and do our jobs better. We advise that Staff, who are to participate in the trainings, do their best, to make the best out of the trainings. A word is enough for the wise!
TRAVELS: We welcome Dr. Jude Ilozumba back from India on Global Fund ticket. In the same way, we pray for journey mercies on Dr. Justin Ekpa who travelled to Addis Ababa to attend African Regional Conference on Anti-Human Trafficking, Mr. Nalda Nanim who, would be travelling to New Mexico on the ticket of 4Gates for more insights into the Surge mechanisms, and Nkese Udongwo who would also be travelling to Taiwan for the Humanitarian Conference on international best practices in humanitarian emergencies.
Lastly, I would like to visit Ogoja office on the 19th of July through 22nd instant Deo volente! And thereafter travel to Germany for two purposes, in the time frame of 26th July through 19th August 2019, to attend a collaboration -meetings with Caritas Germany in Freiburg and the Organization- Kinder in die Mitte, in Aachen and thereafter enjoy a brief summer rest with friends and colleagues.
I thank you and pray you to read the Digest and get informed about the diverse activities and programmes of our Organization and contribute to its goals and dreams, apologizing, should I have omitted anybody or Unit, whose activities falls under this immediate purview.
