As part of activities to commemorate the 2022 World Day Against Human Trafficking which comes up, Caritas Nigeria with support from UNHCR hosted today (July 30, 2022) a Stakeholders Interactive Forum in Benin, Edo State which brought together state and non-state actors to explore the issues surrounding human trafficking in their different contexts.

In line with this year’s theme for  “use and abuse of technology”, discussions focused on how technology has aided or impeded the fight against human trafficking, while suggesting effective ways forward. The sessions included presentations from stakeholders such as NAPTIP, NIS, ETAHT, NACTAL and the NPF, who enlightened the participants on how their agencies were using technology to combat human trafficking.

The presentations offered stakeholders the opportunity to be better informed of the services offered by relevant agencies and ministries and how to access them especially using toll free lines.

The forum also included a  Q& A session,  where the participants  jointly evaluated and suggested measures to improve information sharing, feedback between stakeholders.

A major highlight of the program was the premiere of the short movie production by Caritas Nig, titled “Leave to Live”. The movie throws light on how technology was used to aid  human trafficking and how same was used to rescue a potential victim of trafficking.
