Recently, 5 government Community Primary Schools across Aba South, Ohafia, Osisioma, Umuahia South, and Ugwunabo local government areas (LGA) of Abia State were profiled for the educational grant, during which 155 out-of-school children, who were made vulnerable by HIV, as well as others from indigent households, were identified for re-enrollment in school.
With the support of the United States Government, Caritas Nigeria carried out the following interventions:
- Installation of a ceiling in the examination hall of Ebem Community Primary School, Ohafia LGA.
- Construction of a toilet facility and installation of a water tank at Community Primary School 2, Laguru Ubakala in Umuahia South LGA.
- Procurement of a school band for Ogbor Community Primary School 2, Aba South LGA.
- Flooring of two classrooms and replacement of a damaged door and frame in Umuode Community Primary School 2, Osisioma LGA.
- Purchase of 34 learning chairs and tables for Community Primary School, Ugwunabo LGA.
Among the witnesses at the handover ceremony were representatives of the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, and Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB).
Under The U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and CDC-funded ACCESS project, the School Block Grant for government-owned schools is one of the major social services of our comprehensive Orphans and Vulnerable Children’s (OVC) intervention.
