1. Effective Organisation development requires a robust collaboration among the various segments, departments and units of an organisation. Like a living human body, all the various aspects of the human body must be in alignment, if the entire body systems should harmoniously work and produce the expected results. The same is true of any Organisation. Organisations would not be able to function optimally and achieve the set targets and goals, if their various units are allowed to operate in silos.
2. Inter- departmental collaboration would mean the mutual sharing and professional support from the various departments of an organisation among one another in their struggle to achieve organisational set targets. It is simply, the sharing of knowledge, experiences and insights among the different cader of Staff in an organisation. For instance, is there any possibility of sharing, and exchange between the Care and support unit in the Access Project and the protection project in the NE? Or can any one identify possible areas of interconnection between the MEAL unit in the Access Project and the Humanitarian projects or the Anti- human trafficking project in Benin City?
3.If you are unable to see any connections in the above examples, then we have a task in our hands. We would like to establish the links and the interconnedness among our diverse units and departments. There is no one single unit that is enough on its own. Units and departments are dependent on one another, for the desired outcomes. Neither is any Staff sufficient on his or her own. It is in the beauty of the diversity and mutual collaborations that greatness emerges.
4. Consequently, there should be no attempt at denying the other access to professional knowledge and insight. Those who do so were never knowledgeable. Knowledge expand when shared. No one gets worse, looses knowledge by mentoring and sharing with others what one has come to know and possess. Candles do not become less brighter by lightening other candles. Your knowledge would not diminish, because you have shared same with others. It would rather increase and blossom.
5.We would therefore like to see among different Staff the eagerness to share and transfer knowledge. Institutional memories of organisations and the organisational cultures, ethos and values are harvested and used only in the arena of mutual sharing and fraternal enrichment. Let us stop being selfish, egoistic and mean in our suicidal attempt to hoard and imprison the little knowledge God in his wisdom has graciously allowed us to acquire.
6 Finally, you would have contributed maximally to making the world a better place, where knowledge and truth are shared, where no one dies for lack of due knowledge, where knowledge is put at the service of community, with the little knowledge you have acquired in your own professional discipline.
