The Caritas Nigeria Team in Delta State partnered with the Police Medical Services of the Nigeria Police Force, Delta State to mark the 2021 World Stroke day in Asaba on the 29th of October 2021.
The exercise though directed at members and staff at the Police Headquarters in Asaba, was also open to the general population and involved awareness creation, blood pressure and blood sugar check, HIV screening, medical treatment and distribution of essentials drugs.
Giving a health talk during the exercise, the Officer in-charge, Police medical services Delta State Command, CSP (Dr) Jude Uwaifo sensitized participants on the need to be aware of their health status, ensure regular medical checkup and know the signs and symptoms of stroke. He further mentioned symptoms of stroke to include; paralysis or numbness of the face, arm or leg, trouble speaking or understanding what people say, headache and difficulty walking. Sensitizing participants also was the Head of Police Healthcare Maintenance Organization Mr. Henry Osayande, who stressed the importance of enrolling on National Health Insurance Scheme for easy access to healthcare services at lesser or no cost.
A total number of 140 persons benefited from the screening exercise and were all reviewed with their test results and treated with the appropriate medications. Among all those screened for HIV, no positive case identified.
A total number of 20 healthcare providers were involved in the services, 10 from Caritas and 10 from the Police Medical Services Delta State.
The O/C Medical Delta state Police Command expressed his appreciation to Caritas Nigeria for the partnership and looked forward to more collaborative efforts in the future.
