Dear Friends,

We are pleased to welcome you to Caritas Nigeria’s Fiscal Year 2023 (FY 23). Thank you for journeying with us through FY 22 and for consistently showing interest in our mission. In this new fiscal year, we are committed more than ever to responding to…

various degrees of suffering and deprivations, as well as improving health outcomes for target populations, in line with Catholic Social Teaching.

The financial year started with Caritas Nigeria winning the United States Government’s HIV grant, which spans the next five years starting in October 2022. We are deeply grateful to the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for reposing in Caritas Nigeria with such exclusive confidence to coordinate their goodwill of ensuring that people living with HIV live healthy, happier, and fulfilled lives. For this mandate, Caritas Nigeria has already begun the implementation of the new grant – ACCESS – in Abia, Enugu, and Imo states. Deploying a faith-based approach to implement the Accelerating the Control of HIV Epidemic and Sustainability Solution (ACCESS) project, we look forward to reaching as many individuals, families and communities directly or indirectly affected by the HIV epidemic in our project states with quality treatment services and livelihood support.

In this edition, we bring you a rundown of our humanitarian and developmental activities in the month of October. From exceptionally participating in the CDC-funded 4GATES project closeout ceremony to conducting health systems and partnership strengthening, restoring livelihoods in the Northeast with the aid of the UNHCR, and coordinating the GIZ-supported economic reintegration intervention in Benin City, Caritas Nigeria made fruitful efforts to ensure that persons of concern had a cause to smile despite the insecurity and social and economic uncertainties that rock the world. Prioritizing the dignity of the human person, Caritas Nigeria maintains a correlation between the Church’s values and the interventions that serve the Common Good.

We hope you enjoy reading stories of our life-changing encounters across Nigerian regions and look forward to updating you on more human transformations in subsequent editions. May you experience divine protection, provision and guidance through the last quarter of the year 2022 and beyond.

Shalom!

Yours in the Service of Caritas,

Rev. Fr. Uchechukwu Obodoechina (Ph.D.)
