Families Matter Program: Empowering Parents and Caregivers for Positive Parenting and Safer Environments

Share:

Caritas Nigeria Orphans and Vulnerable Children program in Abia and Imo States recently hosted a graduation ceremony for 65 participants (Parents and Caregivers) as part of the Families Matter Program (FMP) on 9 August 2023. Funded by CDC through Caritas Nigeria and South Saharan Social Development Organization, this initiative focuses on evidence-based interventions for positive parenting and open parent-child conversations about sexuality, risk reduction, and gender-based violence.
At its core, the Families Matter Program not only imparts education but also uplifts lives. The training provided in the Umuda Isingwu community of Abia State and the Uruata Ndegwu community of Imo State has instilled valuable knowledge. This initiative has not only empowered parents and caregivers with tools for effective communication but has also contributed to a safer environment for adolescents, guarding against child sexual abuse and gender-based violence.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of Her Excellency, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, the Wife of the Executive Governor of Abia State who presented certificates to participants and encouraged them on the significance of the commitment in carrying out their roles and responsibilities. She also acknowledged the invaluable work conducted by Caritas Nigeria
The FMP speaks volumes about the potential of collective action in fostering positive transformation.
