Ninety-Nine-Year-Old Community Primary School Wears a New Look

Caritas Nigeria, in partnership with its Community-Based Organisation (CBO), Centre for Family Health Initiative (CFHI), on the 22nd of June, 2022, restored learning pleasure to Umuodu Community School, Mbieri, in Mbaitoli L.G.A of Imo State by providing three-seater desks for the pupils to sit and learn conveniently during classes. Before the intervention, the school faced the challenge of inadequate seats, which led to pupils sitting and learning in clustered and awkward positions as they shared seats during classes. This ugly situation was observed by Carita’s implementing partner for the Orphans and Vulnerable Children under the 4Gates programme during the school’s quarterly educational performance assessments visit.  Historically, the school has served as an early childhood formal learning centre for the Umuodu community since 1923. The school is now publicly owned and controlled by the Federal Ministry of Education, Nigeria.
