Supporting Refugee Education in Taraba State

Caritas Nigeria, with the support of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and UNHCR Nigeria, is strengthening access to quality education for Cameroonian refugees in Taraba State through the ongoing UNHCR Protection Services to Cameroonian Refugees Project.

As part of this initiative, Caritas Nigeria recently distributed essential educational materials to 541 refugee learners across Kurmi, Takum, and Sardauna Local Government Areas of the state. The items — including exercise books, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, rulers, pens, and school bags are designed to support learning and encourage active participation in the classroom.

To further enhance teaching and record-keeping, 16 primary and secondary schools within the host communities also benefited from the distribution of teaching resources such as attendance registers, lesson notes, reams of paper, foolscap sheets, illustration posters, chalk, markers, and dusters.

These interventions demonstrate Caritas Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to inclusive education and child protection, ensuring that refugee children are not left behind in their pursuit of knowledge. By working hand in hand with partners like UNHCR, the organization continues to foster hope, build resilience, and promote educational opportunities for displaced populations in Nigeria.
