Caritas Nigeria and JDPI recently concluded the GFFO II Project on Food Security and Humanitarian Protection for Victims of the Lake Chad Crisis, funded by the German Federal Foreign Office through Caritas Germany. Implemented across more than 28 communities in Kaga, Gwoza, and Magumeri LGAs, the project delivered key interventions in Agriculture, Cash Transfers, Nutrition, Child Protection, GBV Prevention, and MHPSS, addressing urgent humanitarian needs and improving community resilience. The close-out process began at the community level, moved through the LGAs, and culminated in a state event held at Prime Lodge, Maiduguri.
The final ceremony brought together key partners—including Plan International, Borno State MDAs, SEMA, NRC, Malteser International, UNHCR, IRC, UNIMAID WASH Department, and the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital—who celebrated the project’s achievements and shared collective insights. Fr. Vincent Okoye opened the event with appreciation to all stakeholders, while Fr. Peter Audu, Executive Director/CEO of Caritas Nigeria, expressed deep gratitude to Caritas Germany and other partners for their unwavering support. Leeza Joseph, Caritas Germany Country Representative, outlined the way forward and reaffirmed the strong footprint the project has left in the state.
Through these close-out activities, Caritas Nigeria, Caritas Germany, and partners highlighted what was achieved, who contributed, where the work took place, when activities concluded, why the interventions mattered, and how they created lasting impact. The milestone marks a significant step in strengthening support for crisis-affected communities, as partners continue to build hope and lasting change across the Lake Chad region.
