On the 29th of December, 2025, Cross River State refugees supported by UNHCR Nigeria through Caritas Nigeria participated in the annual state carnival to promote social inclusion and public awareness. The refugees joined the celebration to showcase their achievements and growth, while also highlighting the Cross River State Government’s integration support for refugee communities in Ogoja.
The participation proved significant as the event, widely regarded as the biggest street party in Africa, served as a platform to draw attention to the challenges faced by forcibly displaced populations. It also reinforced the message that culture could serve as a strong voice for compassion, responsibility, and shared humanity.
The procession was led by the project field coordinator, Olubunmi Adekemi Fasogba. Through coordinated dance performances, banners, placards, and themed costumes, the refugee troupe communicated key messages on refugee rights and the realities faced by displaced populations.
