Caritas Nigeria

International Day of the Girl Child

On October 11, 2025, Caritas Nigeria renewed its commitment to breaking barriers and building a future where every girl can lead, learn, and live with dignity. Through its various interventions and advocacy efforts, the organization continues to champion gender equality and provide platforms that empower girls to rise above limitations and transform their communities for the better.

The 2025 theme, “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis,” highlights the vital role girls play as agents of change. When girls are supported, educated, and empowered, communities thrive and societies become stronger. Caritas Nigeria used this occasion to emphasize the importance of ensuring that girls are given equal opportunities to lead and contribute meaningfully to development.

Despite the progress made globally, the reality remains concerning. According to UNICEF, girls aged 15–19 are twice as likely as boys to be out of education, employment, or training. In fragile contexts, they are nearly 90 percent more likely to be out of school than their peers in stable environments. These statistics underscore the urgent need for sustained action and inclusive policies that safeguard the rights and well-being of girls everywhere.
