Enhancing Civic Space Engagement for Civil Societies and Persons with Disabilities and the marginalised

Caritas Nigeria participated in a two-day workshop organized by the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) with support from USAID/SCALE. The two-day event was held on the 2nd and 3rd of November, 2023, at the Ibeto Hotel, Gudu, as well as the Radiance Spring Hotel, Gudu, Abuja.

The sessions focused on engaging Members of the Committees on CSOs, and other relevant Committees of the National Assembly to address the multifaceted and diverse issues confronting CSOs including PWDs/Marginalized groups, and on barriers to civic space engagement. It was a moment of interaction with the Legislature on the Issues affecting Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), raised in the strategy document and plan of action.

In attendance was Senator Victor Umeh, Chairman Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, Hon. Victor Obuzor Amadi, Chairman House of Representatives Committee on CSOs and Development Matters, and Hon. Dr. Bashir Ayinla Daodu, House of Representatives Chairman of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), Dr. Clement Nwankwo, Executive Director, Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC), Lydia Odeh, Chief of Party, SCALE Project, Palladium.

The workshop was moderated by Dr. Nwachukwu Orji, of the Institute for Development Studies, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campas. Caritas Nigeria was represented at the workshop by Utsa Vitalis, Program Assistant, Catholic Legislative Liaison Office (CCLO).
