Potentializing Young Minds: Caritas Nigeria and PHEDEC Distribute Business Start-Up Kits

Recently, Caritas Nigeria, working in partnership with the People’s Health and Economic Development Center (PHEDEC), provided business start-up kits to 15 young people who had been trained in various vocational skills. The initiative, aimed at strengthening livelihoods and promoting self-reliance, focused on adolescents supported under our Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) programme.

The distribution took place at the palace of His Royal Highness, Eze Onuegwunwoke David, in Akwakuma community, Owerri, where our OVC team joined the event alongside the Eze’s cabinet members, the Executive Director of PHEDEC, Emmanuel Nwankwo, and caregivers of the beneficiaries.

During the ceremony, the trained adolescents, skilled in hairdressing, fashion design, baking, furniture making, event decoration, catering, electrical mechanics, and auto mechanics, received essential tools to launch their own small enterprises. The support is expected to help them begin sustainable ventures, improve their economic independence, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
