Empowering Returnees Through Skills and Startup Support in Edo

In Edo State, the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) is partnering with Caritas Nigeria to support the socio-economic reintegration of returnee migrants through the Stable, Trained & Empowered Me (STEM) Project. As part of this initiative, over 100 returnees received comprehensive training and start-up tools across several vocational trades, including tailoring, barbing, fishery, and poultry farming.

Held on April 30, 2021, the event marked a major milestone in efforts to reduce irregular migration by equipping young people and returnees with sustainable livelihood opportunities. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the life-changing support, noting that the skills and equipment would empower them to build stable incomes and reintegrate confidently into their communities.

The initiative reflects the commitment of GIZ and Caritas Nigeria to promoting dignity, resilience, and economic self-reliance among vulnerable populations, while strengthening local economies through skills development and entrepreneurship.
