Community-Driven Approaches to Conflict Resolution

Caritas Nigeria, in collaboration with UNHCR Nigeria and the Benue State Commission for Peace and Reconciliation, recently organized a peace-building initiative in the Tatyough community, Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State. The event brought together displaced persons, herders, and government officials to foster dialogue, trust, and unity in a region affected by conflict and displacement. The engagement featured football matches, cultural dances, and structured peace dialogues, providing participants with opportunities to interact, share experiences, and co-create community-led solutions for lasting peace. These activities highlighted the power of sports and culture as tools for reconciliation and social cohesion. A key moment of the event was the unveiling of the Tatyough Peace Signage and the ceremonial planting of Peace Trees, symbolizing the community’s enduring commitment to harmony and peaceful coexistence. These gestures served as tangible representations of the collective desire to nurture peace. This initiative underscores the effectiveness of inclusive dialogue and cultural expression in strengthening community bonds and promoting sustainable peace in post-conflict settings.
