In her match towards entrenching a sustainable democratic culture in Nigeria, Caritas Nigeria is collaborating with the National Democratic Institute, NDI, as a major strategic partner for its interventions in the area of Good Governance.
In a very fruitful meeting held on Friday, April 8, 2022 at the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Caritas hosted a two-man delegation from NDI where the two organizations explored common areas of interest and the modalities for collaboration especially as the 2023 general election draws near.
The discussions focused on areas of common interest including election monitoring, interfaith forums for violence-free elections, youth participation in elections, electoral violence against women, and fundraising. With this development, the two organizations moved to seal the relationship by exchanging the contact information of their focal persons and promising to develop and share concept notes to guide the interventions they will be rolling out soon.
NDI team was represented by its Chief of Party, Stephen Snook, and its Senior Technical Officer Mr Bem Aga while the Caritas Nigeria team led by its Executive Secretary, Fr Uchechukwu Obodoechina (who joined remotely from Owerri) had in attendance the Deputy Executive Secretary, Rev Fr Peter Audu – as the host; the Good Governance program lead, Sir Mark Asub-Obi; Research and Documentation specialist, Mr Joseph Nkamuke;and the Institutional Capacity Strengtheing (ICS) lead, Mr Vincent Egoro.
NDI is is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization working to support and strengthen democratic institutions worldwide through citizen participation, openness and accountability in government.
The meeting was the reciprocation of an earlier engagement visit carried out by Caritas Nigeria to the NDI last month.
