On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, Caritas Nigeria held a significant Board transition ceremony at its headquarters in Abuja, marking a new phase in its leadership journey.
The event saw His Excellency, Most Rev. Dr. Alfred Adewale Martins, the outgoing Chairman of the Board of Directors, formally handing over leadership to His Excellency, Most Rev. Dr. Callistus Valentine Onaga, Bishop of Enugu Diocese, who had previously served as a Board member and was newly elected as Episcopal Chairman.
The transition was facilitated by the Executive Secretary/CEO of Caritas Nigeria, Rev. Fr Peter Audu, who coordinated the proceedings and ensured a smooth leadership handover.
During the ceremony, Most Rev. Callistus Onaga expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve and appreciated the confidence reposed in him. He also commended Most Rev. Adewale Martins for his exemplary leadership over the past four years and warmly acknowledged fellow Board members for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to the organization’s mission.
On behalf of the staff and Senior Management Team, Caritas Nigeria formally welcomed the new Board leadership and extended heartfelt appreciation to the outgoing Chairman for his impactful service and contributions.
The event also featured the presentation of certificates of return to the new Board Chairman and members, symbolizing renewed mandate and responsibility. It concluded with a brief convivial gathering that reflected unity, shared purpose, and gratitude among participants.
