A total of 66 observers (35 INEC accredited and 31 Citizen Observers), participated in the training which was held at the JDPCM office in Oshogbo, Osun State. The training was facilitated by Caritas Nigeria team for the Osun Election Observation comprising of Sir Mark Asu-Obi, Good Governance Focal Person and leader of the team, Engr Melody Enumah, Senior Health Informatics Specialist and developer of the software, Mr Joseph Nkamuke of the Research and Documentation unit, Dr Justin Ekpa of the Communications unit and Mr Ephraim Andeh, the Content Manager for the app.
The trainees are expected to use the new app installed on their mobile devices to gather and transmit election observation data from the field on election day into a central server that will enable real-time collage, analysis and dissection of election activities from the Situation Room set up for the election by Caritas Nigeria in with support from JDPMC, the local JDPC of Oshogbo Diocese.
The Osun election which is another off-cycle election (just like the Ekiti election in June) is being used to test-run and assess the full functionalities of the Church’s election observation platform before it is scaled up and deployed nationwide for the 2023 General Elections.
