Our organisation has commenced the capturing of precise geographic coordinates for every transit shelter supported by the Citi Foundation as part of efforts to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and speed in humanitarian response. By integrating verified location data into the Hopeline platform, the organization is ensuring that displaced persons and emergency responders can reliably locate safe shelters during crises—whether navigating through digital maps or on foot. Accurate geographic information streamlines response pathways and makes critical services more accessible when every second counts.
In furtherance of this initiative, the Caritas Nigeria team paid a courtesy visit on February 25, 2025, to Dr. Celine Kwamoti Laori, Permanent Secretary of the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), in Adamawa State. The purpose of the visit was to formally present the Hopeline Shelter Management Application, an innovative digital platform designed to strengthen emergency response systems and improve humanitarian coordination across the state. The meeting provided an opportunity to demonstrate how the technology enhances crisis coordination and supports more effective service delivery.
The Hopeline platform was developed to digitise access to and management of transit shelters, particularly during emergencies when timely intervention is critical. Beyond enabling displaced persons to quickly identify available and safe shelters, the application equips shelter managers with digital tools to register beneficiaries, allocate resources, and coordinate operations efficiently. Serving as a centralised data hub, the system also generates real-time metrics and actionable insights for stakeholders, allowing emergency responders and government agencies to track interventions, assess impact, and optimise response strategies.
Caritas Nigeria expressed appreciation to Citi for funding the initiative and for supporting local partners in leveraging technology to strengthen emergency preparedness and humanitarian coordination in Adamawa State.
