On 23rd September 2025, Caritas Nigeria marked its 15th anniversary with a series of walkathons held simultaneously across its national and regional offices. Themed “15 Years of Impact,” the events served as a celebration of the organisation’s work and a platform for public engagement on its wide-ranging humanitarian and development efforts.
In Abuja, the Management and Staff, including the Executive Secretary/CEO, Fr. Peter Audu, participated in an outdoor walkathon that combined physical activity with community engagement. Along the route, staff members interacted with residents, shared information about Caritas Nigeria’s programmes in health care, HIV services, and emergency relief, and invited the public to a free medical outreach scheduled for the following day. The activity reflected the organisation’s ongoing commitment to advancing public well-being in alignment with Catholic Social Teaching.
In Enugu, the walkathon began from the Caritas Nigeria office and proceeded through Otigba Roundabout toward New Haven, despite rainy weather. Staff members danced cheerfully, carried banners, and sensitised the public about the organisation’s contributions to health, education, social services, and humanitarian support. Passersby and community members learned about Caritas Nigeria’s role in improving the lives of vulnerable individuals across Enugu State and beyond. The event also showcased the unity and dedication of the staff, who reaffirmed their commitment to development, dignity, and service to humanity.
In Badagry, the B-SLiC project team led a vibrant walk from the Caritas Nigeria office to Jumecs Infant Jesus School. The event, marked by energy and joy, highlighted values of love, unity, and service. At the school, Sr. Emmanuella Anuebe inspired the students by sharing the vision, mission, and life-changing work of Caritas Nigeria. Sr. Efleda Iwediubah, EHJ, followed with an engaging health talk on hygiene, equipping the children with knowledge to lead healthier lives. The walkathon was not only a celebration but also a platform for inspiring the next generation with messages of compassion and care.
Across all locations, the walkathons effectively highlighted Caritas Nigeria’s 15 years of service, increased public awareness, and strengthened the organisation’s presence in communities nationwide.
