Caritas Nigeria and UNHCR Conduct Field Assessment in Adamawa State

Caritas Nigeria, implementing the IDP Child Protection and Protection Monitoring Project in Adamawa State, hosted a UNHCR Nigeria delegation on November 13 and 14, 2025, for a two-day field assessment mission. The visit, led by Bernadette Mutakale Mutesi, Deputy Country Representative of UNHCR Nigeria, sought to evaluate the effectiveness of ongoing protection activities funded by the EU through UNHCR.

The mission team visited host communities in Mubi North and Mubi South Local Government Areas, where Caritas Nigeria is supporting displaced and vulnerable populations. Through focused engagements with refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and host community members, the delegation gathered first-hand insights into protection monitoring, gender-based violence (GBV) concerns, and child protection interventions. Discussions also explored the work of protection action committees and reviewed documentation processes for both IDPs and refugees.

The assessment concluded at the Caritas Nigeria office in Mubi, where Field Coordinator John Onyenike welcomed the delegation for a final debriefing. He expressed appreciation for the constructive feedback provided, noting that the insights shared will strengthen ongoing humanitarian efforts and improve protection outcomes across the project locations.
