In a recent development, Caritas Nigeria, in collaboration with the Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC) of Orlu Diocese, has restored joy to the pupils of Central Primary School, Eziachi, in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo state.
For long, the school children and their teachers have endured a lack of safe water and hygiene systems. Seeing their difficult situation, Caritas Nigeria, together with its diocesan partner, profiled and enrolled the school for the School Block Grant. Accordingly, we renovated an abandoned toilet facility and installed a standard water pumping machine for a defective borehole in the school.
The U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and CDC-funded intervention that was carried out as part of our Orphans and Vulnerable Children’s (OVC) program activities under the ACCESS project has not only prevented the risk of disease outbreak in the school but also made the learning environment more conducive.
