On August 27th, 2026 Caritas Nigeria welcomed the Italian Government representative, Ambassador Roberto Mengoni, to its Head office. The visit provided an opportunity for the Ambassador to learn about Caritas Nigeria’s humanitarian interventions particularly its efforts to address the need of Internaly Displcaed Persons (IDPS) and Refugees in Nigeria. Our Executive Secretary/CEO of Caritas Nigeria, Rev. Fr Peter Audu, and the Director of Humanitarian Services and Early Recovery, Nkese Udongwo, alongside other staff members, received the Ambassador and engaged in discussions on Caritas Nigeria’s humanitarian work and its impact on vulnerable communities.
Discussions focused on the growing humanitarian needs of IDPs and vulnerable host communities, particularly in conflict-affected areas of North-Central Nigeria. The Director of Humanitarian Services and Early Recovery, Nkese Udongwo also highlighted Caritas Nigeria’s interventions and the impact of insecurity on livelihoods, food security, healthcare, education, WASH and psychosocial well-being.
Fr. Peter Audu emphasised the need to address both immediate humanitarian needs and long-term challenges through sustainable interventions, including peacebuilding, psychosocial support, education and early warning systems. Both parties reaffirmed the importance of inclusive, needs-based assistance that upholds the dignity of affected populations.
Caritas Nigeria remains committed to restoring dignity, strengthening resilience and providing hope to communities affected by humanitarian crises.
