As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen staff capacity for effective programming, the Executive Secretary/CEO of Caritas Nigeria, Fr. Peter Audu, undertook a working visit to the organisation’s field office in Ogoja, Cross River State, Nigeria, from 9 to 11 March 2026. The visit commenced with the celebration of Holy Mass for staff, setting a reflective tone for the engagements that followed. After the Eucharistic celebration, Fr. Audu held an interactive session with staff members to gain deeper insight into the humanitarian interventions funded by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees through UNHCR Nigeria and implemented by Caritas Nigeria in the region.
During the visit, Fr. Audu delivered a two-hour presentation on Caritas Nigeria’s core values, highlighting the organisation’s foundational pillars and principal funding partners. He emphasised the importance of staff embodying these values in their professional conduct, particularly in their engagement with donors, stakeholders, and project beneficiaries. The session also provided an opportunity for staff to ask questions and seek clarification on key operational issues. In his remarks, Fr. Audu further stressed that maintaining a peaceful, collaborative, and supportive work environment is essential to effective program delivery and the organisation’s long-term growth.
As part of his engagements in the region, the Executive Secretary also paid a courtesy visit to Irene Omondi, Head of the UNHCR Nigeria Zonal Office in Ogoja. Accompanied by key project staff, he expressed appreciation to the agency for its continued collaboration and support, while expressing optimism that the partnership would continue to deliver greater impact for communities in need. In response, Omondi thanked the Executive Secretary for the visit and reaffirmed the commitment of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to sustaining the partnership and working closely with Caritas Nigeria to ensure the effective implementation of development and humanitarian projects.
