Caritas Nigeria Brings Relief and Hope to Inmates in Imo and Keffi

In the spirit of the “Jubilee of Hope,” Caritas Nigeria (the official development agency of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria) expanded its compassionate prison apostolate to custodial centers in Imo State and Keffi. This mission of mercy was driven by a core commitment to uphold human dignity and provide a sense of belonging to those often overlooked by society.

On December 16, 2025, a specialized three-member team visited the Okigwe Custodial Centre in Imo State, while a second team simultaneously engaged with the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Keffi. These teams, comprising senior specialists and program officers, conducted outreach by hand-delivering essential relief items, including toiletries, footwear, and clothing.

Beyond material aid, the outreach was fulfilled through spiritual counseling and prayers, offering inmates a renewed sense of reassurance. This dual approach of physical and emotional support allowed Caritas Nigeria to bear witness to hope within places of confinement, ensuring that every individual felt seen and supported.
