Until Everyone Is Safe, Our Work Continues

In solidarity with refugees, Caritas Nigeria joined the commemoration of World Refugee Day 2026 across its areas of intervention. Through its Protection and Education programmes, supported by UNHCR Nigeria in Taraba State, Caritas Nigeria stood alongside refugees as they marked the annual observance on June 20, which honours the strength, courage, and resilience of people forced to flee conflict, violence, and persecution.
The main celebration took place in Gembu, bringing together hundreds of refugees from various communities across Taraba State. The event featured a campaign rally, vibrant Cameroonian cultural dance performances, a showcase of traditional Cameroonian cuisine, goodwill messages from refugee and government representatives, and an engaging quiz competition involving primary school pupils.
This year’s theme, “Until Everyone Is Safe,” serves as a powerful reminder that true safety, dignity, and inclusion can only be achieved when no one is left behind. It celebrates the resilience of those rebuilding their lives after displacement and calls on all of us to extend compassion, protection, and support to people seeking refuge within our communities.
Caritas Nigeria continues to work alongside displaced populations to promote safety, improve access to essential services and educational opportunities, and support pathways toward a more secure and dignified future. Until Everyone Is Safe, Our Work Continues.
