Caritas Nigeria, the National Office of the Justice, Development and Peace Commission (JDPC), had the 2026 Annual General Meeting of the Provincial and Diocesan Directors/Coordinators from 20–24 July 2026 at its Head Office in Abuja under the theme: “Towards the 2027 General Elections: The Imperatives of JDPC Participation and Civic Engagement.”
The meeting was facilitated by the Good Governance/JDPC Lead, Mr. Joseph Nkamuke, brought together representatives from all the nine Ecclesiastical Provinces. Its primary aim is to strengthen the capacity of the Church to promote credible, peaceful, inclusive, and participatory elections by enhancing civic education, fostering collaboration among JDPC structures nationwide, and developing a coordinated strategy for the Church’s engagement in the 2027 General Elections.
The opening day focused on reviewing the country’s political landscape, sharing updates from the provinces, and strategizing on the Church’s role in promoting democratic governance and active citizenship.
As part of the programme, Caritas Nigeria’s Senior Advisor on Health Informatics, Tega Ekoh, and Senior Manager, Strategic Information, Emmanuel Vegher, introduced an Election App designed to support election observation, reporting, and coordination. Participants also explored how technology can strengthen election monitoring and improve information management during the electoral process.
In a closing remarks, the Executive Secretary/CEO of Caritas Nigeria, Rev. Fr Peter Audu, encouraged participants to remain steadfast in promoting credible elections, active citizenship, and the Church’s mission of advancing justice, peace, and the common good through coordinated civic engagement.
