Driven by our commitment to advance inclusive and sustainable education, Caritas Nigeria and the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency convened a stakeholders’ workshop in Calabar, Cross River State, to review progress and strengthen the sustainability of the ProFuturo Digital Education Project.
The workshop, themed “Strengthening Government Ownership and Advancing Digital Education in Cross River State,” brought together representatives from the State Ministry of Education, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), school administrators, teachers, and education partners. Participants reviewed the project’s achievements, challenges, and opportunities for greater government ownership of digital education initiatives.
The workshop highlighted the positive impact of ProFuturo in improving teachers’ digital skills, increasing learner engagement and providing access to quality digital learning resources for refugee and host community children. Teacher Leads from St. Peter’s Primary School I and II, Adagom, and St. Eugene Primary School, Ukende, also demonstrated how tablets, digital learning platforms, and interactive teaching methods are being used in classrooms. Stakeholders, however, identified challenges including teacher shortages, inadequate infrastructure, limited digital devices, unreliable electricity and the need to better protect digital learning equipment.
The engagement concluded with the development of a stakeholder action plan outlining key priorities, responsibilities and timelines for addressing identified gaps and strengthening digital education in the state. Government representatives reaffirmed their commitment to working with @CaritasNigeria, UNHCR Nigeria Nigeria and other partners to ensure that the gains of the ProFuturo project are sustained beyond its implementation period.
