Rev. Fr. Michael Ayanleke Banjo is a seasoned Catholic priest with nearly three decades of pastoral, administrative, and judicial experience in the Church. Ordained in 1998 for the Catholic Diocese of Ijebu-Ode, he has served in various leadership capacities, including Judicial Vicar, Chaplain, Dean, and Chairman of the Presbyteral Council. His vast experience extends to national and international roles, currently serving as the Secretary General of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, where he oversees the pastoral and administrative affairs of the Church in the country.
Fr. Banjo’s academic background is extensive, with degrees from renowned institutions in Nigeria and Rome, including a Doctorate in Canon Law from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross. He also holds a Master’s in Government and International Relations and a Diploma in International Law and Diplomacy. His expertise in ecclesiastical law has led to his appointment as a judge in multiple Church tribunals, including the Lagos Inter-Diocesan Marriage Tribunal and the Metropolitan Tribunal of Abuja.
A prolific author, Fr. Banjo has published works on Canon Law, liturgical practices, and pastoral care. His scholarship includes books and articles on topics ranging from sacramental theology to Church governance. Fluent in Yoruba, English, and Italian, with a working knowledge of French, he continues to make significant contributions to the growth and governance of the Catholic Church in Nigeria and beyond.
