Dr. Amana Effiong

Program Director, ACCESS/Protection Projects

Amana Effiong is a Public Health Physician with over 20 years of frontline clinical and development sector experience. Amana joined CCFN in 2012 before a brief sabbatical away and returned in 2017. He provides technical leadership on the US CDC funded ACCESS project as Program Director, as well as leadership and budgetary oversight for the protection and migration department. His core interests include improving healthcare equity and access through sustainable and equitable health financing, universal health coverage, and leveraging integration to strengthen health systems across all tiers of health facilities. Amana is a key advocate of faith-based and privately run health facilities’ role in achieving UHC in Nigeria. 

 

Amana is a certified project management professional (PMP, Program DPro) who holds an MBBS degree from the University of Ibadan and Master’s Degrees in Public Health (University of Leeds), Business Administration (University of Bradford), and Health Economics, Policy, and Management from the London School of Economics. Amana holds certificates in Applied Epidemiology (Emory University) and International Health Consultancy (Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine). In line with his interests in health system strengthening and health financing, he has attended the Global Flagship course on Health Systems Strengthening and Sustainable Financing (World Bank, Washington, DC), and the Advanced Course on Health Financing for Universal Health Coverage for Low—and Middle-income Countries (WHO, Geneva).
