Catholic Secretariat Trains Osun Election Observers on VoteGuard App

On 14 August 2026, the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN) through Caritas Nigeria, in collaboration with the Justice, Development and Peace Makers Centre (JDPMC), held an electoral observation training at the Bishop House, Oke-Ayepe, Osogbo, Osun State ahead of the forthcoming Osun State Off-Cycle Governorship Election

The team was led by the Good Governance Unit Lead, Mr. Joseph Nkamuke alongside Mr. Jude Akwo, Good Governance Programme Manager; Mr. Ephraim Andeh of the ICT Unit; and Mr. Emmanuel Vegher, HI Manager and Mobile App Developer.

The team trained participants on the use of the VoteGuard App, a digital election observation application developed by the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria. The training covered how to use the application, submit election-related information from the field, and report observations in real time. Participants also took part in practical exercises and simulations to help them understand the application and prepare for effective election observation.

The Catholic Church, as a politically neutral institution, continues to support credible, free, fair, peaceful, and transparent elections Through initiatives like this, the Church strengthens the capacity of election observers and encourages citizens to participate responsibly in the democratic process.
