Under the Accelerated Control of HIV Epidemic and Sustainability Solutions (ACCESS) project funded by The U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the CDC, the Caritas Nigeria team in Abia State is proactively ensuring the timely prevention, identification, and treatment of HIV in the region.
In a commendable move, the team organized a comprehensive 6-day training workshop for community ART testers. To this end, a dedicated team from Caritas Nigeria‘s headquarters, supported by our project team in Abia State, played a pivotal role in seeing that all 86 attendees from various districts in the state were empowered with capacities in providing index testing services and targeted community HIV testing and counseling services.
Through on-site mentorship, the community health workers gained a comprehensive understanding of the Patient Biometric System (PBS), HIV case identification and enrollment, client tracking, and follow-up procedures. Furthermore, they were equipped with essential clinical tools to enhance the PBS and offer fundamental client services, both at the healthcare facilities and within the community.
