Caritas Nigeria Day: Sensitization Walk and Medical Outreach in Imo State

Caritas Nigeria Day activities in our project state of Imo began on 20 September, with a sensitization walk by Caritas Nigeria staff. In addition to bringing visibility to the annual event, residents were enlightened about the mission and intervention areas of Caritas Nigeria.

On day two of the event, our team organised a medical outreach at the Maria Assumpta Cathedral, Owerri, where 52 locals received HIV testing services. While others benefitted from health screening and medicines were administered for various ailments.

Recently, the @caritasnigeria Gender & Protection and Prevention, Care & Support Units in our #Abia State field office took to the airwaves at the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State (BCA) to address the pressing issue of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and the significance of the #16Daysofactivism campaign.

The program delved into critical topics, including the origin of 16 Days of Activism, identifying vulnerable groups, addressing #GBV during crises, and @caritasnigeria ’s efforts to tackle this menace in Abia State and beyond. The session emphasized that GBV affects all #genders and highlighted the importance of #prevention, #advocacy, and survivor #support.

The media campaign sparked meaningful conversations, encouraging survivors to report cases to law enforcement and seek clinical care at @caritasnigeria -supported service delivery facilities in the region. Listeners were also urged to challenge harmful #gender norms, support #survivors, and promote collective action to create #safe and #equitable spaces for all.
