Caritas Confederation Delegation Commissions Solar-Powered Borehole at Malkohi IDP Camp

As part of the ongoing work visit of the Caritas Confederation delegation to Nigeria, the team visited Malkohi IDP Camp in Yola South, Adamawa State, on 14th October 2026, to commission a solar-powered water borehole. The borehole was provided under the Norad-funded project, supported by Caritas Norge and implemented by Caritas Nigeria and JDPC Yola Diocese, with support from the Adamawa State Government.
In an opening remarks, the Executive Secretary/CEO of Caritas Nigeria, Fr Peter Audu, expressed gratitude to Caritas Norge for making the project possible. He emphasised the importance of access to safe drinking water, describing it as essential to human life, health, and well-being. Also speaking at the event, the Secretary General of Caritas Norge, Joys Ingrid Rosendorf, expressed appreciation to Caritas Nigeria for presenting and implementing the project. She also thanked the Malkohi community and the Adamawa State Government for their cooperation and support in making the intervention possible. In addition, the Program Advisor, Humanitarian, Michael Adie, provided an overview of the project, explaining the reasons for the intervention and its importance in improving access to water for displaced families.
Speaking on behalf of the community, the community representative Alhaji Bashiru Aliyu thanked Caritas Nigeria and Caritas Norway for providing the borehole. He noted that access to water had been a major challenge for residents of the camp and thanked them for providing water to the IDP Camp and ensure that the borehole will be well taken care of to avoid any vandalization.
The event continued with the formal commissioning of the solar-powered borehole, followed by a visit to the IDP camp to engage with residents. The delegation also paid a courtesy visit to the Bishop of Yola Diocese, Most Rev. Stephen Mamza, to seek his fatherly blessings and discuss opportunities for stronger collaboration in supporting vulnerable people across the diocese.
