Building Sustainable Livelihoods for Vibrant Communities (B-SLiC) PROJECT

Funder: Conrad N. Hilton Foundation

Project Goal: The project aims to build capacity and empower women, men, and youths in climate-smart agricultural production, vocational skills acquisition, and facilitate increased access to markets and financial inclusion.

Targets: 4000 households (20,000 individuals)

Activities: This project targeted 20,000 direct beneficiaries in 4,000 households, over 2 years in Southwest Nigeria. The project aims to build capacity and empower women, men, and youths in climate-smart agricultural production, vocational skills acquisition, and facilitate increased access to markets and financial inclusion. The direct beneficiaries would not only have improved household incomes which would enable them to better care for their household members, but would become self-employed and employers of labour, thereby creating more jobs within the communities. This would in turn directly impact the local economy through rippling economic empowerment, increased incomes, creation of jobs, and ancillary services, leading to self-sustaining vibrant local economies within target communities.

The climate-smart agriculture strategy will encapsulate care/stewardship for the environment, while at the same time, improving the incomes of the beneficiaries sustainably and improving the health and general well-being of the consumers/end-users of the farm produce. The skills acquisition component will effectively create sustainable jobs, increase incomes, and foster vibrant economies within target communities.
