Background:
The Shelter & Durable Solutions project is funded by UNHCR to cater to the shelter and protection needs of vulnerable persons through the construction of 100 compartments of durable shelters for vulnerable persons as well as address their livelihoods needs.

Overall Purpose: 

The Site Engineer’s job role includes shelter planning/design, promotion of appropriate building technologies and innovative building materials (mainly ISSB), and construction monitoring. This implies that the Shelter Engineer will bring to the fore competent academic qualification in civil engineering or architecture and solid expertise on ISSB production and Construction.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Carry out construction supervision as set out in the physical works contract;
  • Identify and report on potential delays and or cost overruns that can be avoided;
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports that cover supervision activities and share them with the project coordinator;
  • Assist the Project coordinator to ensure that the planned activities are conducted safely, on time, and within budget and scope;
  • Identify risks, develop mitigation solutions and escalate to the Project coordinator;
  • Ensure that the implementation of works is in accordance with Donor’s operational directives, instructions, and guidelines;
  • Manage the implementation of construction as per the design approved by the donor;

Qualification and Experience:

  • Proven working experience in civil engineering
  • Excellent knowledge of design and visualizations software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar
  • Proficiency in site layout, grading, utility design, erosion control, regulatory approvals, etc
  • Excellent supervision skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • BS/MA in Civil Engineering/ Architecture.
