Project Background

Building Sustainable Livelihoods for Vibrant Communities” (B-SLiC) Program, is a 2 year Agriculture and Livelihoods Program, targeting 20,000 direct beneficiaries in 4,000 households across Ekiti and Lagos States. The program aims to build capacity and empower women, men and youths in climate smart agricultural production, vocational skills acquisition and facilitate increased access to markets and financial inclusion. The direct beneficiaries would not only have improved household incomes which would enable them to better carter for their household members, but would become self-employed and employers of labour, thereby creating more jobs within the communities.

Job Summary

The Senior Agriculture and Livelihood Associate will work closely with the Program Manager, and Climate Smart Agricultural Specialist, to deliver needed capacity building and technical assistance for beneficiaries on the project. S/he will co-lead planning, implementation and monitoring of all Food Security/Livelihoods activities and humanitarian response which also includes program support in beneficiary targeting, selection and registration, community mobilization, trainings, monitoring and evaluation of project activities, coordination, and reporting. In addition to this, s/he will, on behalf of Caritas Nigeria and Partner organisations, attend sector meetings as necessary and present reports.

Responsibilities

  • The agriculture and livelihood associate will be responsible for the implementation of agriculture and livelihood activities on the field.
  • Support and carry out the registration of project beneficiaries with the under the supervision of the Program Manager and Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) Specialist
  • Utilize Program assessments reports to determine most viable income generating activities.
  • Support stakeholder and partners in organizing the training of selected project beneficiaries.
  • Assist in data collection for project monitoring and evaluation. 
  • Coordinate the agriculture and livelihood activities according to strategy, proposals, budgets and plans with support of the Program Manager and CSA Specialist
  • Ensure adherence to Caritas Nigeria policies and donor requirements
  • Provide weekly program activities progress reports and regularly brief the Program Manager, Agriculture & Livelihoods Specialist on emerging issues, foreseen problems, constraints or delays in the timely implementation of activities or any other factors that could affect the quality of the services and recommend and implement approved corrective measures.
  • Involve and inform communities and community leaders about the activities 
  • Coordinate with relevant partners working in the same implementation areas
  • Facilitate the distribution of program supplies and materials based on Caritas Nigeria approved project protocols
  • Prepare weekly progress reports and other documents as required.
  • Coordinate and prepare selected beneficiaries and stakeholders for training  on best agronomic practices, home gardening, climate smart agriculture and livestock production & management and FFS
  • Supervise distribution of materials and equipment are timely and accordance with Caritas Nigeria quality standard 
  • Involve and inform communities and community leaders about the activities, aim and objective
  • Provide weekly work plan and weekly report to the CSA specialist to report to the program manager
  • Document the implementation process, lessons learnt and success stories in each year of program implementation.
  • Proper documentation of weekly and activity reports
  • Any other tasks assigned by the by the CSA Specialist/Program Manager or Humanitarian Director

Desired Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor of Agriculture or equivalent in relevant field such as agriculture or rural development
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience  working on agriculture/ Livelihoods/ Market access programs in humanitarian or development context
  • Strong technical background in a broad range of livelihoods and early economic recovery interventions
  • Demonstrated capacity in technical support and coordination
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
  • Demonstrated experience and abilities in donor and host government representation at field level, in capacity building of local staff and local government, in negotiation, and monitoring
  • Effective multi-tasking, organizational capacity, prioritization skills are necessary
  • Fluency in oral and written English
  • Ability to communicate effectively in Yoruba and other local languages of the region will be an added advantage
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members is essential
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Resident and conversant with the geographic terrain in Southwest Nigeria
  • Willingness to reside and ability to travel throughout Southwest Nigeria.
