Project Overview
The project aims to promote peaceful coexistence, strengthen social cohesion, and support conflict-affected communities through inclusive community engagement, dialogue, and capacity-building activities.
Job Purpose:
The Peacebuilding Programme Coordinator will lead and coordinate the planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of all reconciliation, peacebuilding, transitional justice, social cohesion, and reintegration activities under the SD3R project.
The role ensures strategic oversight, effective stakeholder engagement, high-quality programme delivery, and adherence to UNDP standards across selected LGAs in Adamawa state.
The Coordinator will serve as the primary interface between project teams, traditional leaders, community structures, Local Government Authorities, NHRC, and other stakeholders to ensure sustainable reintegration, community healing, and localized peacebuilding outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
A. Programme Implementation
- Lead the design, execution, and quality assurance of community reconciliation, transitional justice, peacebuilding, and reintegration interventions under the SD3R project.
- Oversee the implementation of activities across stakeholder engagement, social healing, MHPSS components, livelihood reintegration, and VSLA establishment.
- Ensure project activities are context-sensitive, conflict-sensitive, gender-responsive, and aligned to UNDP standards and donor requirements.
- Develop weekly, monthly, and quarterly work plans in collaboration with field teams and implementing partners.
- Provide technical supervision to field teams and thematic officers to ensure quality delivery, proper sequencing, and harmonized approaches.
B. Capacity Building and Community Engagement
- Lead the assessment, training, and strengthening of community-based committees/platforms on reconciliation, transitional justice, peacebuilding, and community mediation.
- Train and mentor traditional leaders, youth groups, women’s networks, and community facilitators.
- Facilitate inclusive dialogue platforms for victims, survivors, former associates, traditional institutions, and local authorities.
- Support communities in designing and implementing community-driven healing, forgiveness, and reintegration initiatives.
- Champion gender-transformative approaches that enhance women’s participation in reconciliation and decision-making.
C. Coordination and Partnerships
- Serve as the focal point for coordination with NHRC, LGAs, traditional councils, CBOs, and UN agencies involved in reconciliation and reintegration.
- Convene and participate in coordination meetings, task teams, and peacebuilding technical groups at LGA and state level.
- Facilitate collaboration with sector partners to ensure complementary support in MHPSS, protection, livelihoods, governance, and civic engagement.
- Build linkages and synergies with other UNDP recovery and reintegration programmes.
- Ensure strong government involvement and promote local ownership in peacebuilding and transitional justice processes.
D. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
- Lead baseline assessments, community mapping, and needs assessments across the target communities.
- Oversee data collection, beneficiary documentation, attendance records, and progress tracking in line with project MEL frameworks.
- Prepare high-quality monthly, quarterly, and final narrative reports detailing achievements, challenges, learning, and recommendations.
- Ensure activity documentation including minutes of meetings, training reports, case studies, photos, attendance lists, and success stories.
- Manage monitoring of social impact projects and coordinate reporting on community reparations initiatives.
- Ensure conflict-sensitive monitoring of reintegration and transitional justice outcomes.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies, Social Sciences, International Development, Law, Psychology, or related field.
- Master’s degree is an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience in community-based peacebuilding, reconciliation, reintegration, conflict transformation, or transitional justice—preferably in post-conflict contexts.
- Demonstrated experience working in Northeast Nigeria, especially in community reintegration processes involving NSAG-associated persons.
- Proven experience in coordination with government actors, community leaders, traditional institutions, and humanitarian/development partners.
- Experience in designing and implementing donor-funded programmes (EU/UNDP preferred).
- Familiarity with MHPSS, social cohesion, livelihood support, and protection programming.
Skills and Competencies
- Excellent coordination, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong interpersonal, facilitation, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Excellent analytical, documentation, and reporting abilities.
- Fluency in English (required); working proficiency in Hausa, Fulfulde or Kanuri is an added advantage.
- Ability to work under pressure, in insecure environments, and in multicultural teams.
- Strong understanding of humanitarian principles, safeguarding, and do-no-harm approaches.

Physical Demands:
