Today, the 9th of February 2024 we wrapped up our commemorative activities for the feast of St. Josephine Bakhita activities with sensitization sessions at Ekiadolor and Ogida markets in Ovia and Egor LGAs respectively
Focusing on the theme of the year, Journeying in Dignity: Listen, Dream, and Act, the team explained the various forms of human trafficking, as well as the latest antics of traffickers. Stressing the importance of safe migration and vigilance. Caritas Nigeria team urged the participants to uphold the dignity of the human person by protecting vulnerable persons, welcoming survivors of trafficking, and reporting perpetrators.
The event was marked by two significant sessions. In both sessions, our Migration and Reintegration team in Benin City introduced our organisation to the audience. We also seized the moment to enlighten them on the personality of St. Bakhita, who endured the torture of slavery from her early years, embraced Christ along the way, cared for humanity, and was canonized by the Church after her death.
Although they described the nation's harsh economy as one of the push factors of forced migration, the participants of our awareness-raising sessions were encouraged to keep hope alive, arm themselves with factual information, and utilize their God-given talents to create legitimate alternatives to self-sufficiency.
