Commemoration of World Day Against Trafficking

Caritas Nigeria flagged off this year's celebration of World Day Against Trafficking with a stakeholders’ engagement meeting in Ogoja, Cross River State where we are implementing the UNHCR-funded Protection Assistance for Cameroonian Refugees program.

In line with this year’s theme, ‘Use and Abuse of Technology, the meeting was convened to enlighten relevant institutions that are involved in the campaign against trafficking on the dual roles of technology in aiding and combating trafficking activities, with practical examples. The event was attended by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Immigration Service, and the Network Against Child Trafficking and Labour among others.

On July 30th, our teams in Benin City and Ogoja joined the global commemoration to advocate for the use of technology in awareness campaigns, prosecution of offenders, and provision of support to survivors of human trafficking. Using radio for mass sensitization, Caritas Nigeria educated the public on the trends and ills of trafficking in persons, as well as the role of technology in aiding & curbing the global scourge.
