The Caritas Imo Network
The Caritas Imo Network is a dedicated group of partners, volunteers, and stakeholders committed to advancing our mission in Imo State. Leveraging the extensive reach of the Catholic Church, the network operates through numerous parishes, schools, and healthcare facilities spread across the state.
This collaborative approach allows us to implement a wide range of programs effectively, addressing the unique needs of different communities. Our network is the backbone of our efforts in Imo State, enabling us to deliver impactful and sustainable solutions.
Featured Impact in Imo State
The Catholic Caritas Foundation of Nigeria presently implements the “Accelerated Control for HIV Epidemic and Sustainability Solutions” (ACCESS), a PEPFAR-funded five-year (2022-2027) cooperative agreement/grant between CCFN and the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). CCFN is currently leveraging on successes from recent past awards, as well as other proven and innovative strategies for reaching those at greatest risk of HIV acquisition, to reduce new HIV infections and achieve epidemic control in Nigeria. The Access Project is focused on Quality, Collaboration with GoN and Relevant Stakeholders, Paediatrics and Adolescent case finding and ART coverage, sustaining epidemic control as well as transitioning to the Government of Nigeria.
CCFN Country Operational Plan (COP) is targeted at achieving the PEPFAR 95:95:95 goals, through the provision of client-centered care and Quality Services for the desired clinical outcome.
CCFN continued operations in Imo State from October 1st, 2022 after a successful transition from the 4GATES Project which ran from October 2017 to September 2022 with a track record of success.
As of the end of June 2024, CCFN Imo State has provided care and treatment services to close to 47,000 PLHIV to ensure retention and desired clinical outcomes. All supported facilities are currently supported with the latest version of the Nigerian Medical Information System (NMRS) to support near real-time data updates and program monitoring. This data is subsequently uploaded to the National Data Repository which is a repository of de-identified patient-level data collected from health facilities across Nigeria.
CCFN in Imo State has been partnering with the following government agencies
- State Ministry Of Health through the State Agency for HIV and STI Control Programme and State Agency for the Control of AIDS
- State TB and Leprosy Control Program
- Clinical Mentorship Program
- Faith-Based Health Facilities
- Catholic Relief Services (CRS)
CCFN has also been providing continuous mentorship and coaching of healthcare workers to ensure quality service delivery. To strengthen the state’s capacity to organize and retain a motivated health workforce for effective service delivery, capacities of healthcare workers, persons living with HIV, and community members were built through mentoring, technical assistance and training/re-training.
Other activities carried out by the team include EMR use for data entry and ease of analysis, Provision and capacity building on PMM and PME tools, HIVST, TB/HIV Collaboration, Commodity Management as well as Program and Grant Management
