The emergency intervention which commenced today, April 12, 2017 was drawn up at instance of the organization's top management led Fr. Evaristus Bassey, as part of efforts to support government in the ongoing national fight against the outbreak of meningitis which has so far claimed several lives in different parts of the country.
The organization closed officially for the Easter holiday yesterday, April 11, 2017. However, staff that took part in the exercise reported at the various venues as early as 7 o’clock in the morning, and worked up till 5 PM in the evening before closing for the day.
In Abuja, the turnout has been massive with hundreds of residents of Durumi and its environs trooping into the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria to get immunized. Majority of beneficiaries who were interviewed saw it as welcome relief and divine intervention, having gone to various public health facilties in search of the vaccines but without success. So far close to two thousand persons have been immunized in Abuja alone.
